Windsor fashion artists put their creations on display last Thursday at the first Art on Culture Fashion Show at the Water’s Edge.

Event curator and coordinator Stephen Drouin said culture is more than just someone’s heritage and where they are from.

“Culture is many things, if I were to name my mannequin I would name it culture,” said Drouin. “Culture is the name of the mannequin and when I say art is on culture, I project that art is on us as people.”

Samantha Enriquez, one of the 10-plus artists whose work was featured in the show, agreed – and said it is important to showcase one’s culture.

“It’s a good way to get everyone to collaborate grow and bring everyone together,” said Enriquez. “I did a Mexican inspired design. There is not many Mexican people living here and I think it’s important to share that part of me.”

Profits from tickets sold benefited several local organizations including The Windsor Youth Centre and Arts Council Windsor and Region.

The show, which was sponsored by the City of Windsor, had a $20 entry fee which included food, live dance and guest speakers.
