Boating season is here just as the warm weather approaches. It officially started April 13.

The Windsor police marine unit will be patrolling the local waterways.

“We have fantastic waterways in our community,” said Sgt. Steve Betteridge, reminding the public to respect the marine rules.

He said please urge the public to remember to wear approved life jackets and have proper safety equipment aboard all vessels on the water.

Windsor is a border city and city police help patrol the busy international waterway. This season they are partnering with the following police services: Amherstburg, Chatham-Kent, LaSalle, Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to ensure that the waterways will be safe and enjoyable for everyone this season, said Betteridge.

He added it is dangerous and illegal to operate a boat while under the influence of alcohol and you can be charged for impaired driving.
