Assault leads to Amherstburg man arrested

An Amherstburg man has been arrested pending charges of aggravated assault on an attack leaving another man in critical condition in the early morning of Nov. 11.
The 33-year-old victim was reported by witnesses to be engaging in a conversation with the 32-year-old accused. This occurred at 339 Fort St. in Amherstburg. Witnesses said the exchange turned violent and the accused physically beat the victim unconscious.
At 3:36 a.m., police responded to reports of an unconscious male lying with obvious trauma to his head on the front lawn of the address. He is in critical condition in hospital.
The suspect had originally left the scene, but was later located by Amherstburg police. He will be arraigned in court today pending the charge of aggravated assault. Police and Ontario Provincial Police are continuing the investigation.
