Automotive Recycling Program Kick off
by Marc Tessier
The owner of Evoy’s Service Garage will be kicking off their ecofriendly recycle program Oct 25.
Evoy’s garage, located at 3720 Seminole St. has teamed up with the Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) and the Canadian Automotive Association (CAA) to make it easier for people to participate in their six-day recycle program from Oct. 15 – 21.
Don Ing, ASE certified Drive Clean repair technician and owner of Evoy’s since 1989, said they started the campaign to raise public awareness and show that many things can be safely recycled.
Ing joined Evoy’s team as an apprentice in 1978 under the original owner Grant Evoy when the garage was located on Ottawa Street until 1984, later taking ownership in 1989.
“We basically want to recycle everything we can,” said Ing
Evoy’s, Windsor’s only CAA approved garage, accepts dead batteries, old tires, anti-freeze and used motor oil filters. These items are later sent to the recycle for reprocessing to filter out impurities so they can be reused.
This year, CAA and OTS will be awarding $20,000 in landscaping to the school in the area of Evoy’s that collects the most tires.
Windsor Police Services Const. Paul Jean, 50, is a recycling customer at Evoy’s. He recycles old batteries and said he is happy with Ing’s program.
“I think it’s good education for all people so that products can be recycled properly and not fill up the landfill.”
