February 1-7 is Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2018. As an activity during this week, the “Be YourSELFIE” project has been organized by the Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association in Windsor.

“Our community has decided to do the “Be YourSELFIE” campaign in order to get people to talk about eating disorders, body and their self esteem on social media,” said Luciana Rosu, executive director of BANA.

Last year, BANA asked people to take a Polaroid selfie un-edited picture. Because of last year’s success, this year they encouraged participants to put positive messages on letter board, again take pictures with a Polaroid camera and post the images on the social media.

“Sometimes there is a lot of stigma around eating disorders,” said Rosu. “People feel shame and are embarrassed to talk about it. Basically, we are trying to promote people to speak about eating disorders.”

The project is running all week, welcoming people to join in and will be around the city including at the University of Windsor for Jan. 29 and at Devonshire Mall on weekends.
