The 20th anniversary of Border City Wrestling brought in many wrestlers, legendary and new, to the St. Clair College gymnasium Oct 19.

Over 800 people gathered in the gym to watch the wrestlers battle it out. Former WWE superstars such as Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Rikishi and Scott Hall appeared at the event.

“Ticket sales were phenomenal, we are packed,” said Matthew McAusland, ring crew organizer for BCW. “I want to say we turned down about 50 people, unfortunately, but limits are limits.”

BCW teamed up with the entertainment technology program at St. Clair College to help bring the event together. The BCW crew met up a few times a week to plan and organize the event. The production crew were there at 10a.m. that morning to ensure everything was ready to go.

McAusland also said the College is a great place to hold the event for many different reasons.

“St. Clair College is a pillar of our community in Windsor and the gym carries sound very well, the students here are a great help and facility is top-notch,” said McAusland. “Entertainment technology students have other opportunities to help with events but to help with an event this size, is hard to find.”

Al Ruddick, a member of the audience, said he didn’t hear about the event until around 4 p.m. on that day and travelled from Brantford to Windsor to come see it.

“I came out to see wrestling and get some autographs, that’s the only reason,” said Ruddick. “There and back is a five hour drive, I wanted to meet these guys because they are my childhood heroes.”

Ruddick said he has been watching BCW since he was six years old. He has collected almost every single wrestler action figure and now his house is full of wrestling artifacts.

McAusland hopes this event will continue for years to come and get bigger and better.
