Carbon monoxide alarm blitz underway
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services are conducting a carbon monoxide alarm blitz this week.
WFRS have partnered with Goodfellows and the Victorian Order of Nurses for their assistance in identifying at-risk residents. The goal of the campaign is to improve home safety and reduce carbon monoxide and fire-related deaths to zero.
Fire prevention officers will be canvassing neighbourhoods across the city to guarantee that the residents have the mandatory carbon monoxide alarms in their homes. If the occupant needs an alarm, a fire crew will visit the home and properly install one.
According to Chief Fire Prevention Officer, John Lee having a carbon monoxide alarm has been the law since 2015.
Carbon monoxide, otherwise known as the “silent killer” is a toxic, odourless gas produced as a result of incomplete combustion from a range of common fuels.
“Rather than conducting an enforcement blitz, we decided that with this donation of carbon monoxide smoke alarm units that we would proactively go out into the neighbourhoods to check and install them, free of charge,” said Lee.
