Children search for the missing cake
By Sean Previl
Children and parents have been challenged to figure out the mystery of the missing cake.
The Art Gallery of Windsor held their first annual Mysteries of the AGW! P.A. Day Party Oct. 11.
Salina Larocque, education and programs coordinator for the AGW, said she wanted to try something new for their various P.A. day parties. With Halloween approaching, the mystery genre fit perfectly.
“I wanted this to be a fun way for the kids to tour the gallery and actually be involved in an exciting mystery and a fun afternoon,” said Larocque. “The kids can learn about the art while they’re playing a game.”
Anne Dougall brought her grandchildren Alex, 10, and Charlie Dougall, 8, because of their love of art.
“(The mystery event) is a good idea, it really keeps them interested,” said Dougall.
Kevin Flynn, a six-year volunteer with the AGW, said the event takes visitors away from the usual art gallery atmosphere.
“It’s a great idea to provide alternative ways to access the gallery for people who perhaps who are a little intimidated,” said Flynn. “‘Whodunnit’ appeals to anybody. Most people really have a yearning to know who did it and kids are even more curious. But you have to give them a good (mystery to solve).”
Larocque said if the event goes well, she would bring it back because it brings people to the gallery.
“Doing something different and having (people) come is exactly why we do it. Not only to appeal to the kids and the parents but to make the community realize that we’re doing something fresh and we want people to come.”
