Windsor City Council has pledged to build 13,000 homes by the year 2031.

According to the provincial housing tracker tool, the city has only started 346 homes in 2023.

The city’s Commissioner of Economic Development says internal data shows the city actually started 953 units. Administration have also appointed a dedicated person to track down the discrepancies in number of units attached to every single permit.

The target of houses increased to 1083 units in 2024. Their target is to grow to 1300 units by next year. The city needs to approve more than fifteen-hundred units each year in order to meet its housing target.

All the reports will be posted to Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation from now on.
