Class is in Session at the Can-Am Wrestling School
A local wrestling school is offering people a place to hone their craft.
For 25 years Scott D’Amore’s Can-Am Wrestling School has been creating local, national and international wrestling stars. The School opened in 1993, along with D’Amore’s wrestling promotion Border City Wrestling, to fill a void left in Windsor’s wrestling scene since the days of “Crybaby” George Cannon’s Superstars of Wrestling.
The school provides a place where D’Amore can work on his wrestling skills as well as create new wrestlers and help other wrestlers polish their skills to compete in BCW.
“One of the things we focus on is the fundamentals and basics,” said D’Amore, owner and head trainer of Can-Am Gym. “Which I think sometimes is lacking. The other thing is that a lot of our guys come back to help out.”
Over the years the school has seen many trainers: such Johnny Devine, Tyson Dux, and others. Currently the school has four trainers Nate Matterson, John E. Bravo, Aiden Prince and D’Amore.
“It’s not the easy thing to do, but I think everyone should I at least check it out,” said Aiden Prince. “It’s the best decision I ever made it my life.”
Over the years the school has seen wrestlers such as Bobby Rhoode, A1, Eric Young, Rhyno and Chris Sabin.
BCW and Can-Am currently have a partnership with Impact Wrestling, where D’Amore serves as co-executive vice president, which has helped bring many current wrestling superstars into the BCW ring.
BCW and Impact Wrestling will be making their return on March 22 and 23 for a set of Impact TV tapings and will include current Impact stars such as Pentagon Jr., Tessa Blanchard and lots of Can-Am homegrown talent.
