Community plunges in icy water to raise funds for Special Olympics
The Windsor-Essex Polar Plunge is being held at St. Clair College’s main campus in cooperation with Windsor Police and the Windsor-Essex Torch-Run to raise funds for Special Olympics.
According to Windsor Polar Plunge’s website, they have a goal of raising $60,000 and have already raised 23 per cent of the goal.
Special Olympics Ontario is a non-profit organization that provides sports and training programs for children, youth and adults with disabilities.
Sheri Makulski, a Special Olympics participant, said it was a big help to her.
“I was a part of it for 15 years. My favorite events included track and field, bowling, ice skating, and swimming,” said Makulski.
Makulski said it is a great platform to socialize with people with disabilities.
“It’s good to socialize with other disable people. I liked meeting with my all my coaches and socializing with a bunch of people,” said Makulski.
