Competition fierce at Windsor LEGO robotics event
Last weekend St.Clair College was a mecca for young teens at the Windsor Essex First LEGO robotics competition. About 1,000 elementary children participated. First Robotics organized this event, inspiring students to learn in the fields of science, engineering and technology.
Jeremy Hanson volunteered at the competition and said the competition was fierce.
“The teams are definitely competing against one another,” said Hanson. “The top teams are going to go on to two other bigger competitions, provincial level, national level, sometimes even [an] international level.”
Comments from competitors attest to the idea that this event is much more than a challenge with toy building blocks.
“I like robotics because it’s a fun experience where you can bond with people who you don’t normally go, who have the same interests as you,” said Nicole Newberry, one competitor.
Winners from the regional tournament move to compete next in the provincial level. Other regional LEGO competitions happen this weekend in Whitby, Sarnia and Toronto.
