It was a cold and snowy Tuesday afternoon but the H.S. Hetherington Public School gym was warm, crowded and festive.

The second annual Winter Craft and Gift Show attracted many vendors and patrons for the fundraiser.

Before the swarm, many vendors were arranging their stalls, adding last minute touches to their handmade crafts.

Many of these vendors are a part of the school’s parent council, bringing used Usborne books, handmade sock monkeys and sweet candies to attract little customers.

“It was a good craft show. My son goes to the school and I sold Beanie Boos for my business,” said Darlene Babineau whose Beanie Boos were very popular at the show.

The main purpose of the activity is to raise money for the school. Parent council will then use the money to buy things that the school needs.

“Last year, we were able to buy iPads for the students… this year we are going to get some sports equipment, so just extra things that the school needs,” said Karen Stallard, organizer of the event and member of the parent council. “We want to have a big event and bring people to the school and show them how great the school is.”

There were over 40 vendors this year, but Stallard said there were less vendors than last year. This gave vendors more space to showcase their crafts.

The canned good donations from the event will be donated to Windsor’s local food banks.

“The craft show is good for promoting local people relationship and local business, it helps bring all the people together,” Stallard added.
