Day 1 of 2016 Windsor Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario a barrel of fun
More than 80 groups local law enforcement officers and St. Clair College students took part
Windsor-Essex County’s law enforcement officers teamed up with students from St. Clair College for the good of charity.
Hundreds of students at the college watched as more than 80 groups jumped into a pool filled with ice water in front of its main building as part of the second annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario. The event, which was hosted by both the college and the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run, was held to raise funds for the province’s Special Olympics programs.
The participants were encouraged to dress up in costumes. This led to a variety of unique outfits, ranging from people wearing superhero tights to recreating a scene from the 1997 film Titanic on the diving board.
The event’s fundraising goal is $10,000 according to the website. Some local groups have raised anywhere between $20 to more than $1,000 in pledges as of Feb. 4. The organization has already raised $58,000 from its other events across the province. Its overall goal is to raise $270,000 for the Special Olympics. The final donation amounts will not be available until next week.
