Delta Company to host MASH Bash

Members of Delta Company are hoping to raise awareness about their organization and the services they provide to military reservists by hosting a MASH Bash at Walkerville Brewery this weekend.
Delta Company is the civilian arm of the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment Association which holds many fundraisers throughout the year such as Trot with the Troops every September. At the event the public can run with the soldiers as they do their training, visit the armouries and get a greater appreciation for the work reserve soldiers do.
All of the funds from Friday’s MASH Bash goes to the military families or the regiment for military personnel. At the Bash there will be a slideshow of over a 1,000 images of Canadian soldiers from the World War I, to present, the Essex and Kent Scottish Pipes and Drums band and entertainment by local band Murphy’s Boys.
The event is meant to promote “A greater appreciation for the military and our role in the community, overseas and in our own country,” said Mary Baruth, second-in-command with Delta Company.
Delta Company also has programs such as the HIRE program, which allows potential employers and job-seeking soldiers to utilize the Delta Company website to find appropriate matches to meet their needs. The program is open to all employers and to those employee candidates with military experience. It is meant to create a win-win situation between job-seeking military personnel and potential employers.
“(It’s) a great opportunity for the public to mix and mingle with current and former military personnel, and do more community building,” said Baruth.
Friday morning volunteers were busy at the brewery setting up for the event including a large green military tent which people will walk through as they enter the building. The entire space will be set up as a medical and surgical unit as you would see on the television show M*A*S*H.
Organizers say they are hoping to see a large number of people representing all sectors of society at the Bash to meet and talk with Delta Company and the reservists.
“The voice of the regiment to the community and the voice of the community to the regiment,” said Cy Mcgrath, officer commanding of Delta Company.
