Dilkens in Favour of Cannabis Retail Opt-Out
Mayor Drew Dilkens wants Windsor to opt-out of cannabis retail outlets in order to wait-and-see how the roll-out goes in other parts of the province.
During a visit to AM800`s The Lynn Martin Show Wednesday, Dilkens said that he is not satisfied with regulations governing the placement of brick and mortar cannabis retail stores.
Cannabis retail outlets must be at least 150 metres from a school, according to provincial government regulations. Dilkens would also like to see regulations around the distance of retail outlets from addiction centres.
Municipalities have the option to opt-out of having retail shops by January 22nd of next year. If they opt out, they can always opt in later. But if they opt in now, they can not later opt out.
The city launched an online survey seeking public opinion on cannabis retail stores.
