Dog flu still in Windsor

It’s bringing new meaning to the phrase ‘sick as a dog.’
For the first time in Canada, there are confirmed cases of canine influenza.
The Town and Country Animal Clinic said two dogs imported from South Korea in December showed signs of a respiratory disease when a veterinarian examined them.
A few dogs that had close contact with the affected dogs were also found to have a mild respiratory disease.
In Canada, dogs do not have natural immunity from canine influenza since it’s new here.
“It could spread just like the human flu, and the dogs that are at risk are the older and the ones, the immuno-compromised, same as in people,” said Brittany Ferris, a veterinary technician from the clinic.
