Upcoming projects are in the works at the Downtown Mission of Windsor.

This year is a big one for the Downtown Mission of Windsor, which has two major projects underway. The first is a free dental hygiene clinic at the Ouellette Ave. food bank and the second involves the purchasing of the Windsor Public library across the street. This building will be a centre where they can help people get back on track and provide affordable housing.

Ron Dunn, executive director of the mission, said that they hope to have the dental clinic finished and ready to go by July of this year, and are acquiring the library in the summer as well. Once they have the building, he said they are looking to build apartments on the second floor, where they hope to fit up to 60 affordable units.

“That [affordable housing] is one thing that we don’t have a lot of in Windsor, but it is one of the most important things you can provide to people trying to get back on their feet,” said Dunn.

Dunn said they have been able to raise a lot of the money through fundraisers and old fashioned mail. He said they are extremely blessed by the love and support they have gotten from the community.
