Eat your own words

A student at St. Clair residence Lyndsey Findlay is holding an Eat Your Words event later on Nov.7.2014.

Findlay last year at “Comfortable Words People Regret Negative Words They Used” saw that event at the university of Windsor to help her with her own anti bullying event.

Findlay said students should understand how words hurt and can affect every single person whatever is being said aloud, and should realize how words hurt others.

“ Personally I feel this s a good event because it gives the students the opportunity to come out to reflect on their past inappropriate words they have been using”, “ said Phillip Tower 21 residence advisor. “Hopefully this good coping mechanism will help students stop using negative words that may be harmful to another student, make new habits, interact with new people and have a better knowledge on how people feel.”

Findlay said she brought this idea up to her boss during a residence advisor meeting. This is the first year letting students know how the words they use have great impact. How harsh and hurtful they maybe be to one another. By using cookies as a metaphor. Gaining from this words have been affecting others, and how much they hurt. Hoping the students will realize a better understating of bullying and harassment in a fun way.

She is the only one running this event with help from her boss. Findlay is hoping 25-30 students come bring samples of words not to say.

“It allows the person eating the cookie to visually comprehend the idea to visually eat their words,” said Darien Pauls 19.” Most people brush off the idea of eating your own words, but when you’re forced to actually physically eat them out in front of other people it puts it more in perspective that this is what we should do instead of saying that word not knowing the affect or outcome that may happen to others around.”

The event will take place at 7p.m. Nov.7 at the St Clair residencies at main campus and will end when all the cookies are gone.
