Eating Healthier
By Emma Butler
Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has launched a new online challenge for better eating. The online challenge, held over a six week span, is free for residents of Windsor to learn about the new Canadian food guide.
March is National Nutrition Month in Canada, and this year the Health Unit wanted to adults practicing better eating habits. The challenge is called “Building Healthy Habits with Canada’s Food Guide” and offers strategies on how to set goals to improve eating habits.
Each week the challenge will change to focus on a different healthy eating topic. Topics include choosing healthy options when dining out, planning healthy meals and moving to plant-based diets.
Participating in the online challenge is a win-win-win. The Health Unit helps you to understand the new food guide and how to eat better. A healthy diet can help reduce the risk of many chronic diseases including cancer and cardiovascular diseases (heart failure and stroke). Lastly, you have chances to win weekly prizes and a grand prize just from participating.
The challenge runs from March 4 to April 12, 2019. To join the challenge visit the Health Unit website at https://wechu.org/nutrition-month-2019-challenge or call the Health Unit at 519-258-2146, extension 3200.
