Supergirl makes it big in Canada
The new CBS series Supergirl is making headlines after it premiered on Oct. 26. The pilot episode had an audience of approximately 1.7 million Canadians, who tuned in to watch according to Numeris Overnight Data.
The show stars Melissa Benoist as the main character, Kara Danvers. The show will air Mondays at 8 p.m. starting Nov. 2 on Global.
Adele’s new tracks
After a three year hiatus, Adele released her newest single, Hello Oct. 23. Adele showed off her voice and her new song with a video directed by Quebec filmmaker Xavier Dolan. Hello is the first song from Adele’s new album 25 which will be available on Nov. 20.
Critics say they aren’t impressed by Jem and the Holograms
Jem and the Holograms, directed by Jon Chu, is based on the 1980 cult hit Jem, an animated series about all girl bands battling against each other. But according to an article by CNN, many critics feel it didn’t stack up. Neil Genzlinger, a critic for the New York Times said the movie seems like “they just threw some ideas together and were hoping that nine-year-olds liked it.” According to the article, the movie focus’ on the instant YouTube fame, rather than the girl-power allure of the 80’s series.
Laverne Cox and Rocky Horror Picture Show
Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox has been cast as Frank-N-Furter in the 2016 Fox remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show. The original 1975 cult classic is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary. The remake is set to be released in fall of 2016 and will be directed, produced and choreographed by Kenny Ortega (producer of the original.) Cox’s character Frank-N-Furter is self-described as a “Sweet transvestite from transsexual, Transylvania.”
Laverne Cox wasn’t the only choice for the part of Frank-N-Furter. Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert were both offered the part but turned it down.
