Essex Powerlines’ (EPL) recent paperless bill campaign saw customers help donate to children’s coats by signing up for paperless bills. Over an eight-week period, 403 customers signed up for the paperless service and donated a total of $4,030 to Coats for Kids at the Unemployed Help Centre.

The annual project by the Unemployed Help Centre was in danger of being abandoned because of a lack of storage space, money to wash coats and new collection sites. Essex Powerlines decided to take action in support of the initiative and the community. By registering paperless bills using EPL’s customer portal the seasonal campaign not only offers customers the opportunity to save paper but also donates to Coats for Kids, the unemployment centre’s program.

In addition to raising money, EPL staff held an internal event to collect donated coats.

June Muir, CEO of Unemployed Help Centre said they are grateful for the donation.

“As a local distribution company, we are proud to work together with our communities and local organizations to help make a difference,” said Joe Barile, general manager of Essex Powerlines Corporation.

According to the website of Essex Powerlines, they are committed to developing a better community and are currently involved in many charitable projects.

They provide more than $20,000 in in-kind services to the four communities they currently service. This money is used towards the sponsorship of local festivals, parades, teams, organizations, schools, and non-profits.

Their employees collect funds each year for a needy family at an area school.
