ETFO members mark National Day of Action
The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario took part in a National Day of Action against threats to public education Feb. 28.
ETFO members all wore red, displaying ETFO logos and signs as they enter schools and engage in social media messaging with the hashtag #redfored, highlighting the importance of publicly funded public education in Canada
“Ontario faces a very serious threat to our world-renowned public education system with the Ford government’s damaging cuts,” said Sam Hammond, president of ETFO
ETFO and three other major teachers’ unions in Ontario have not been able to reach a tentative contract with provincial negotiators. They mostly continue to disagree on cuts to education funding, support for special needs students in the classroom, e-learning and violence at the province’s schools.
