Express prepares for playoffs

The Windsor Express are preparing themselves for what they hope will be a successful post-season.
The Express possess the best record in the National Basketball League of Canada (28-11) and are the Central Division champions, giving them home court advantage throughout the playoffs.
“It’s been a fantastic season,” said Dartis Willis Sr., president and CEO of the Windsor Express. “We are happy where we are. It feels good to look down at the other teams below us.”
Last season, Windsor had a 24-21 record and were eliminated from the playoffs in the semifinals. That season marked the Express’ first season in the league. Since last season, the Express has improved significantly in the standings and in teamwork.
Willis Sr. said the team has gained experience and better chemistry. He said he believes that knowledge was what led to better chemistry along with skills and ability.
Express coach Bill Jones compared both seasons and is content with the season improvements.
“We have gained a lot. We are the team with the best record, we won our division. We’ve accomplished a lot. Last year, we came in third, this year we bettered that,” said Jones.
The Express play their final home game against the Ottawa Skyhawks. Jones said that because this is the last regular season game the Express plan to show their appreciation to their fans. Based on the playoff bracket, they might face the Skyhawks in the second round of the playoffs.
“We have won six games against them, they have won one against us,” said Jones.
According to Jones there will not be any game time changes.
“On Monday and Tuesday, we have rested some of our players,” said Jones. We are just trying to get our players back in rhythm, trying to get them ready for the playoffs and getting them ready for that long stretch run for our quest to win the championship.”
The Express will host the Skyhawks on Friday, Feb. 28 at the WFCU Centre at 7 p.m.
