Extreme cold warning putting a freeze on Windsor
Frigid weather is keeping people inside their homes.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when low temperatures create elevated health risks from symptoms such as frostbite and hypothermia.
Often, these warnings are issued when conditions reach levels ranging from minus 30 to minus 55 Celsius for at least two hours depending on the location.
“Cold is limiting all the activities you want to do, so just think twice about going outside,” said Andrew McCarroll, a Michigan resident who had business to attend to in Windsor for the day.
The low temperatures have kept McCaroll’s Honda Accord locked in his garage.
“The windshield fluid is completely and totally frozen, so travelling on the roads right now, with all the slush and stuff coming up from the roads and we have to spray it, we can’t,” said McCaroll.
Windsor resident David Jones is fortunate to have a job that does not require being out in the cold for extended periods of time.
“Luckily, I work in a (construction) company that has vehicles and we can hop into the vehicles and get warm when we need to,” said Jones.
With snowfall expected for Sunday and Monday, plows are already roaming the streets. Environment Canada reminds everyone that if it is too cold to stay outside, it is too cold for your pet.
