The premiere of Fifty Shades of Grey hit local theatres Feb. 12 to full houses.

Many Windsorites pre-ordered tickets to the movie weeks before opening day. Brendan Steiner, 21, said he ordered tickets for him and his girlfriend online.

“I bought my girlfriend the books and she loved them so much. She couldn’t wait for the movie so I bought the tickets as soon as I could,” Steiner said.

Although it played in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, Steiner said it wasn’t the reason why they went to watch the movie.

“It just happened to work out that way. She wanted to see it no matter when it came out. It being made it more of a date night,” Steiner said.

The film opened in more than 60 countries including the UK, Australia, Canada, France and Germany but has been banned in Malaysia and looks unlikely to hit screens in the Middle East.

Steiner said although he was shocked it showed more nudity than he thought it would, he finds it acceptable if there’s a reason.

“I think that it was okay to show that much. From what I hear, in the books, the series is mostly about the sexual things that go on between the main characters,” Steiner said. “I’ve just never seen something like that before but in the right place it works. If it doesn’t fit the theme then nudity probably shouldn’t be that prominent.”

Although Steiner enjoyed the movie, he recommends only people who are more open with their sexuality to watch it. Sadie Chartrand, 20, a fan of the book said she preferred the book over the movie.

“I thought the movie was terrible, could not even compare to how much I enjoyed the book but it motivated me to watch the movie,” Chartrand said. “The characters didn’t have that intense chemistry that the book created for them, they skipped out a lot of things from the book.”

Chartrand also said she didn’t think there was that much nudity considering the movies R-rating and finds it more acceptable in this generation.

“There were a lot of shirtless scenes for the female actress but I think everyone who is old enough to see the movie is probably used to it,” Chartrand said. “It’s 2015, there’s a lot worse in movies than nudity.”

Chartrand said she highly recommends reading the book before watching the movie.
