Fighting crime with pasta

Residents of Tecumseh and Windsor are showing their support in fighting local crime … through their love of pasta.
The Riverside Sportsmen’s Club is hosting a pasta dinner every Wednesday in September to raise money for Crime Stoppers.
The first of these events took place last winter and was continued after being so successful. Tickets for the dinner are $8 and includes a serving of pasta, a side of salad and garlic bread for each guest. Part of the proceeds from the dinner go to Crime Stoppers.
Cst. Kristina Gilboe, police coordinator for Crime Stoppers, helps organize the event. She said it has been getting busier and there is always a great turnout.
“The money raised at the events are used directly to fund the program, but also to pay out tipsters calling in about crime in our community,” said Gilboe.
For Marguerite Schmitt, she’s there for the sauce.
“Usually, I just get soup bowls with servings of the sauce,” said Schmitt. “I come out to support Crime Stoppers, the pasta is a bonus.”
Gilboe said Crime Stoppers is grateful for the support they have received from the community.
The last dinner will be Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
