“Hear the beep where you sleep, every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm” is this years slogan for the annual fire prevention week. Windsor Fire and Rescue Services along with all other departments in the province are encouraging homeowners to make sure there are working smoke detectors outside each sleeping area in the home.

At a press conference held outside city hall, Windsor Fire Chief Bruce Montone asked Windsorites to test their alarms regularly. He also said that kitchen fires are still the leading cause of house fires in Windsor.

Montone reminded citizens that 50 per cent of injuries involving fires are caused by those who try to extinguish them. When a fire is already going, just call 9-1-1.

The week runs from October 5-12, 2015 and is put on in partnership with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall.
