First Fall Of The Year
All good things have to come to an end.
After starting off the year undefeated, the St. Clair Women’s basketball team took its first loss Wednesday to the Lambton Lions 70-57. With the loss, the Saints fall to 6-1 with the Lions taking over first place in the OCAA Women’s West Division.
St. Clair struggled offensively shooting only 27.4 per cent on the night. The lack of offense caused the Saints to be outscored in every quarter, resulting in the 13 point deficit.
The biggest downfall for the Saints on the night was not only their inability to score on the night, but lack of size in the paint.
Lambton, although only making one three-pointer all night, was able to consistently get the ball down low for the easy score. The Lions put up 30 more points in the paint than the saints.
Along with dominating the paint on offense, Lambton out rebounded St. Clair and added 5 blocks to the mix.
In the loss the Saints still fought to the final minute, with admirable efforts from guards Kaitlyn Overeem who contributed in all phases with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Janae Smith also put up 15 points for St. Clair.
St. Clair’s next game will be played Dec. 1 against Niagara College on the road.
