Food holidays are something to celebrate at Eatery 101
By Kenneth Pastushyn.
Restaurants, bakeries and foodies are celebrating national food holidays on a regular basis.
Although it is getting more difficult to keep track of them, one of the more popular celebrations is National Pizza Day, which falls annually on Feb. 9.
Pastry chef Tammy Elliott, at Eatery 101 said it’s her favorite food holiday.
“I try as much as possible to incorporate the food holidays in my field of work,” said Elliott. “I believe that promoting a certain food gets people talking and cooking or even buying.”
Eatery 101 will be featuring menu items for National French Bread Day on March 21 and National
Cheesesteak Day on March 24, with their BLT sandwich made with a freshly baked baguette and of course their Philly cheesesteak.
“Oooh, National French Bread Day,” said Riley Schaefer, a first-year student in the culinary management program at St. Clair College. “The BLT is amazing and it’s some of the best bread I ever had. I love cheesesteak.”
National Cheeseburger Day is on September 18, however Eatery 101 celebrates the cheeseburger more often.
“It’s cheeseburger day every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Eatery 101,” said Schaefer. “It’s the fresh ingredients. Garnished with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles, it even tastes good when cold. Sometimes simple is better.”
