Amherstburg native and former Windsor Spitfires goaltender Michael DiPietro earned himself another shutout this weekend as a member of the Ottawa 67’s.

The recent team Canada starting goalie in the world junior hockey championships notched his 17th regular season shutout with a 4 – 0 win against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday. Sixteen of those shut-outs came while DiPietro was the netminder for the Spits, who was recently traded to the Ottawa 67’s.

The Vancouver Canucks 64th overall pick in the  2017 NHL draft set a new Ontario Hockey League record, cementing his spot in the Canadian junior hockey history books.

The new record puts DiPietro atop Tom McCollum, who held the previous record of 16.

DiPietro also recently became the winningest goaltender in the Windsor Spitfires history, as well as leading the Windsor Spitfires to the 2017 Memorial Cup Championship.
