The latest Grand Theft Auto video game had fans waiting in the cold.

Several stores in Windsor opened their doors at midnight Sept. 16 to give fans a chance to buy Grand Theft Auto V early. The midnight release had fans showing up as early as 4 p.m. to wait in line. It didn’t help the patient gamers that it was a cold night.

Olin Ashak arrived at Best Buy around 5 p.m. to wait in line.

“Honestly, coming to these releases are fun because you get to converse with people and talk about the game,” said Ashak. “All in all it is a good experience as long as it’s not cold. But it is worth it.”

The game was released with multiple versions giving fans the choice of a standard, special or collector’s edition. Ashak said he was hoping to get his hands on a collector’s edition of the game as soon as doors opened. Ashak also said he has been a fan of the franchise since the first Grand Theft Auto was released.

Ashak said it is still uncertain whether GTAV will be released on the Xbox One or Playstation 4 because there still has been no official word from the creators. One of the big improvements Ashak said he was excited for is the new size of the gameplay map.

Grand Theft Auto V is a huge map. It’s Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas all combined.”

Sean Barrett arrived at Best Buy at around 7 p.m. on Monday and was more than willing to wait in line until midnight.

“Five hours of waiting is worth five years of playing the game over and over,” said Barrett.

This was Barrett’s third time going to a midnight release, the first two being Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. Barrett also said he believes the game will have no problem selling well.

“They spent $265 million making it and they made it back in $10 pre-orders,” said Barrett. “So once people put $50 down on the game just multiply that by five and they’ve already made $1 billion.”

Grand Theft Auto V was released on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 Sept. 20. The game made $800 million in its first 24 hours according to publisher Take-Two Interactive Software Inc.
