Gardening during the Spring
Garden centers are now opening for the spring season.
Early spring is encouraging people to start planting because of favourable weather conditions.
While most people are at home during the coronavirus pandemic, taking care of gardens is becoming a part of their daily life which is helping increased the gardening business industry.
Fred Bouzide is the owner of Fred’s Farm Fresh International Market located on Huron Church Road in Windsor.
“People are at home and cannot travel. So, they buy more flowers and vegetables to grow at their house during the lockdown,” said Bouzide.
He also said they have variety of herb plants, flowers, annuals, topicals and perennials like geraniums, shamrocks, succulents, bonsa, houslehousel plants and many more.
Plants for your yard can cost as little as a few dollars for bedding, plants or more than $25 for pre-planted arrangements.
Bianca Elijah, 23, a shopper at Fred’s said “I have loved to garden since I was a teenager and this spring, I am planning to grow raspberries and strawberries as they are my favourite fruits.”
She said she has planted many things due to lockdown such as cactus, tomatoes, shamrocks and lettuce.
The spring season offers an opportunity for people to start their own organic products in their gardens because soil is free from ice crystals and crumbles, and it is ready for gardening.
Bouzide said the best thing for people now to do is to come to the garden centre and see the variety what they have.
