Get REAL with St.Clair College during Diversity Week

The University of Windsor group Get REAL is participating in St.Clair College’s Diversity Week Pride Day on Nov. 18.

Founded at the University of Western Ontario in 2011, Get REAL is a youth-focused non-profit organization that aims to voice the stories of the LGBTQ community and supporting students.

With more than 20 university campus teams across North America, Get REAL’s mission is to create a friendly working environment both on campus and within the surrounding communities.

“Get REAL at the University of Windsor would love to have more members and supporters from the college,” said Victoria Pedri, president of Get REAL. “This collaboration would lead to a better outreach for the Windsor community and youthDefeating homophobia is our common mission. The impact we may have on the St. Clair campus is one of education, team values, kindness, and justice.” Get REAL draws from personal stories to provide youth and their educators with a safe and accepting environment within their workplace and their workplace and their school. With various approaches to education, one-hour workshops focus on stereotypes and unique stories towards the LGBTQ community.

“We are putting on this week as a way to show St Clair students that the LGBTQ community is a part of our community as a whole too. We want to show support for all students at this institution and respect them,” said Jeff Rousseau, president of the Student Representative Council at St.Clair College. “Additionally we will have some smaller fun activities to promote Pride such as Skittles giveaways.

We will have students sign a flag of support for the LGBTQ community and it will be raised on the flagpole outside on Nov 18.
”This will be Get REAL’s first time attending Pride Day during St.Clair College Diversity Week.
