Government tables Back to Work legislation for Canada Post workers
New legislation drafted by the Liberal government could force Canada Post Office workers back to work right before the holidays.
Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, Patty Hajdu, tabled the bill in Parliament Thursday.
Communities across Canada including Windsor and Essex County have been targeted by rotating strikes since Oct. 22. The pressure to end the impasse is growing with the busy holiday season approaching.
Postal workers say they are fighting for pay equity and safer working conditions. The Postal Workers’ union is currently planning on fighting the legislation to prevent the bill from passing. Some workers say it undermines the negotiation process.
Today we took a procedural step but we still believe a deal is possible. I continue to encourage the parties to get to a deal. pic.twitter.com/cA3ln23Avj
