Have you seen the Super Moon this year?
By Shirley Feng
Looking up at the night sky tonight, you will see the biggest moon of the year.
The Super Moon phenomenon occurs every year, so if you missed it Sunday night, you’ll get another chance to see it Monday.
According to the Weather Network, the spectacle happens when a full moon is closer to the earth. The usual distance is 361,524 km which is 90 per cent of the average distance from the moon to the earth.
That means the moon will appear bigger and brighter than the usual full moon.
Did you know that this is not the first Super Moon this year? According to the Weather Network, the Super Moon also appeared on April 26, May 25 and June 24. But it was not big enough as all we could see was the dark side of the moon. But In December, the distance between the earth and the moon will be the shortest.
Astronomers call this is the perigee Full Moon (Perigee: the closest point in the Moon’s orbit).
Experts sat the best time to catch the Super Moon is right after sunset.
