The Holy Names Knights handed the Herman Green Griffins their first loss of the season last week at the University of Windsor.

Holy Names quarterback, Jake Heyden, threw four touchdown passes and his team was able to score three field goals along with a safety which helped his team defeat Herman at Alumni Stadium.

With a crowd of nearly 250 people, there was a lot of noise which helped motivate both teams, even as they played through the rain.

“Having the crowd cheer after every play helped us a lot, it gave our guys energy,” said Heyden.

Holy Names head coach, Rob Mcintyre, was impressed with the way his team started the game. He said it played a big role in their victory because it gave them a 25-point lead going into the second half.

“I thought we executed well in the first half with pass protection on offense, plus we had a couple plays that worked for us on the run,” said Mcintyre.

Herman head coach Barry Lumley said his team did not play nearly good enough.

“We got dominated on the line, I thought we needed to be more physical as well. We need to play much faster and more physical next week,” said Lumley

With the win, Holy Names’ record improved to 4-0 and Herman’s record went down to 3-1 after the loss.

Holy Names next game is on Oct. 12 against L’Essor at Tecumseh Vista Academy. Herman faces Kennedy Oct. 13 at the Honourable William Costello Kennedy Collegiate Institute. Holy Names is currently in first place in the Windsor Essex County Secondary Athletic Association  AA Tier 1 division and Herman is currently tied for first with Kennedy in the WECSSAA AAA division.
