Holy Names High School overcame adversity to defeat the number one ranked football team in Canada to win OFSAA Western Football Bowl.

Holy Names High School defeated the London South Collegiate Insitute 21- 17 in a comeback win. After being down by 10 points, Holy Names was able to have a strong second half scoring two touchdowns.

Coach Rob McIntyre said the team knew they would be okay going into the second half.

“We were really trying to stick to the plan. We gave up two bad plays in the first half, that was the only reason we were down,” said McIntyre. “We knew we were going to take the win in the fourth quarter. We knew if we could get to the fourth quarter with the score the same or a little better in our favour we would be alright.”

The game was held at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton and was Holy Names’ first appearance since 2007. McIntyre praises the players on the team for the win.

“Well deserving group, worked very hard at practice every day. They earned this championship for sure,” said McIntyre.
