Windsor man dies after suffering life threatening injuries from a fall.

Windsor Police have investigated the homicide of a 36-year-old man after he fell from the second floor of a motel

On Oct. 1, around 12:30 a.m., police officers were called to a motel located in the 2800 block of Howard Avenue. Upon arrival the officers found a man seriously injured after dropping from the second floor of the building and transported him to the hospital.

The police questioned a number of people who were gathered at the scene and it was determined there may have been a criminal element to the incident. The case was classified a homicide investigation by the Major Crimes Branch.

Robert Legebow, 19, a resident of Windsor, was arrested in relation to the investigation and has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

The annual total of homicides, manslaughter and violent death has steadily increased over the past eight years and the police recorded this as the city’s ninth homicide this year.

“It definitely wouldn’t be as comfortable walking out here at night as I am in the south,” said Trevan Wright, a chiropractor who works on Howard Avenue near where the incident took place.

According to the workers at the Ivy Rose Motor Inn where the incident took place, the motel has never experienced any incident similar to this.

“Windsor is pretty safe, I just think that because there is a population coming from other town and other places, we get different kind of groups in here that obviously all these cases do happen,” said Mike Hazeltom, a staff member at Ivy Rose motel.

According to Hazeltom, who has been working at the motel for two years, they keep track of people who come into the building through the data that is gathered at the front desk.

The matter remains under active investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police Service at 519-225-6700 ext. 4830 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com
