Honouring Canada’s public safety telecommunicators
It’s not an event that’s widely celebrated, but the annual National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is held every year during the second week of April.
It is a time to recognize telecommunications personnel in the public safety community for their service and commitment to the profession.
Windsor police recognized the occasion on their Twitter account this year.
“Our communicator department and dispatchers are there 24/7 and 365 days a year. Quite often for a victim they are the first contact if someone called the 911 or the non-emergency contact. They do a tremendous vital job for our community and we are pleased to recognize them,” said Sgt. Steve Betteridge.
As we wrap up #NationalPublicSafetyTelecommunicatorsWeek , we are reminded of the role E911 plays in our community – They are the 1st calming & professional voice in often chaotic & challenging scenes – they obtain & relay critical info – THEY SAVE LIVES – and WE THANK THEM. pic.twitter.com/Xpw9otDX7p
