Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare celebrates 100th anniversary
Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH), formerly known as Grace Hospital, celebrated its centennial anniversary on Saturday.
Irek Kusmierczyk, Member of Parliament for Windsor-Tecumseh called the anniversary inspiring.
“The stories that were shared and the folks that came together – including two nursing graduates from 1948 – made for a truly inspiring day,” said Kusmiercyzk in a tweet.
“February 1, 1920, the doors opened to the first patients of the new Salvation Army Grace Hospital and 100 years later we celebrate that remarkable day and organization,” said Janice Kaffer, president and CEO of HDGH. “The building may be gone but the love, care, compassion, professionalism and sense of family [is still] alive in Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital.”
Kaffer tweeted that the HDGH team works “hard every day to respect the legacy” left by the original Grace staff.
“No matter what we do or how we grow we promise to never lose sight of where we have been,” said Kaffer.
The event also officially launched the book, Amazing Grace by local author and Canadian poet Marty Gervais. The book captures the legacy of the former hospital.
