Hundreds joined together at St. Clair College in support of Suicide Prevention Awareness Week.

The fifth annual Suicide Prevention Awareness walk took place Sunday, Sept. 29, at St Clair College. The walk, which is part of an entire week dedicated to suicide prevention, is in support of those struggling with any form of mental illness.

Approximately 800 members of the Windsor-Essex community joined in to show support for the cause including members of the local emergency services and Hotel Dieu Grace staff.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) partnered with The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit to head the campaign to bring awareness to suicide, which is the second leading cause of death among Canadians under 25 years old according to the CMHA.

With the goal to spread the message “You Are Not Alone,” the Windsor community showed solidarity with those who are affected by mental health.

The free walk, which followed along the Herb Gray Parkway for five kilometers with an option for a shorter two kilometers, is just one of a series of events in September that promote awareness of suicide prevention.
