The hills are alive with the sound of music once again as Windsor Light Music Theatre puts on fan favourite musical The Sound of Music.

They will be performing the show at the Chrysler Theatre in mid-November of this year.

“This is our third time doing The Sound of Music,” said Connie Farrer, long-time member of Windsor Light Music Theatre and artistic director of The Sound of Music. “I think it is a fan favourite or a crowd favourite.”

She said Windsor audiences like to see shows they are familiar with, and The Sound of Music is one of the most well-known musicals of all time.

“Having Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer based on the musical definitely brings people in,” said Farrer.

The Sound of Music film was originally released in 1965 to an excellent reception for its breathtaking photography, many iconic songs and an amazing cast. These elements came together to make the show an immediate classic.

“This is an old-style musical theatre show so there tends to be a large set, the lighting is a little simpler, but the staging is bigger,” said Filip Khan, the technical director for the Sound of Music.

Khan said this time they have done a cross between the new style and the old style with more lights and larger set pieces as opposed to many smaller pieces.

“We give elements of being in a home as opposed to an entire home,” said Khan. “The audience knows they are in a home; they don’t need to see the entire house.”

However, a musical is not just the directors. The actors are just as important.

“This is like my big return back to doing theatre,” said Ruby Dauphinee, who plays Liesl Von Trapp in the musical.

Dauphinee has not been able to act because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She said theatre was a huge part of her life and she felt like she lost a part of her when she stopped performing.

Overall, the cast and crew at Windsor Light are extremely excited for people to see their performance.

Windsor Light will be performing The Sound of Music on the 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th at 7:30 p.m. and on the 19th and 26th at 2 p.m.
