Is the Book Industry Struggling Nowadays?
While Windsor Public Library reports about half of the city’s population are library card holders, some residents have mixed opinions about reading actual books anymore over digital content.
According to the Windsor Public Library website, more than 95,000 Windsorites are the public library card holders, and through the past year more than 1.5 million different types of content was borrowed.
“I’m old fashioned, I like the book in my hand, I do not like eBooks” said Faten Logan of Windsor.
Faten said books are better than movies because they are more detailed, and your imagination can go further.
Keegan Parchill said he never really reads books. He said he has some manga Japanese comics because “They look pretty nice on the bookshelf.”
“I watch a lot of anime,” said Parchill. “None of that anime would exist if the manga didn’t exist.”
Parchill also said that he thinks it’s cool and how anime gives people who don’t prefer to read the opportunity to experience these stories through shows or movies.
Ada Anuze said she is not a huge reader but feels it is good for mental development.
“eBooks and audio books are more popular than actual books,” Anuze said.
Anuze also said reading is a good exercise when you are bored and that some books provide more details than the movie.
Aman Sharma a St. Clair College student in the Business Administration program, said he loves to read, and his favorite books are spiritual books. Now he is reading about how you treat other people, and how they treat you and how it affects your nature.
“Nowadays podcasts are much better, and many people listen to TED talks,” Sharma said.
Nowadays there are less adults who read, buy or borrow and enjoy the company of an old paper book, however, there are still younger generation enjoying card books, their texture, colors, it helps to develop not just motoric and even imagination but also feeling of whole event of discovering.
