It’s only a thousand one dollar chips
The upcoming $1000 poker tournament at Caesars Windsor has the attention of all poker players on the local and national circuit.
On November 28-30 Caesars will hold a $1,000 poker tournament with a 200 player cap and a $75,000 guarantee to first place. This is Caesars annual tournament The Legend has Arrived and is the biggest tournament in Windsor.
The $1,000 buy in is very steep. Especially for a small town casino like Caesars. It has a lot of the players very scared to enter. The fear of the buy-in is not lost on 24-year-old professional poker player Jamie Richardson.
“$1,000 is a lot of money. I don’t think people truly understand how much money that is when they play this tournament,” said Jamie. “As someone who supports myself by playing i have to realize how much it is, and that’s scary. At the same time you have to weigh risk vs reward and figure out if it’s worth it in the end.”
Richardson also went on to explain how when you have a tournament like this that attracts many wealthy “not so great” players, you have to take educated risks and take a shot due to the “crazy insane value” a tournament like this brings. Gary Hurst, 29-year-old professional poker player couldn’t agree more.
“I don’t even play tournaments, let alone a tournament over $200. However when I was told about this one in Windsor I booked a trip right away,” said Hurst. “This tournament is going to be 85% rich old men with the other 15% of us being true grinders looking to swipe up the money. Sometimes you have to separate yourself from the situation, forget about how much money you are paying, and look at the long term value of the situation.”
Sam, 71 year old casual poker player may prove Gary’s theory correct. At 71 Sam is retired, has no better way to spend his money.
“I love playing poker. $1,000 is a lot, but sometimes you just have to treat yourself. I think I will do okay,” said Sam. “I mean why not? Maybe I win and my wife becomes very happy all of a sudden. Or maybe I lose. It’s just a thousand one dollar chips anyways.”
The tournament starts November 28 and ends November 30. Direct buy-ins are available now, and satellites start running in one week.
