Journalism students get visit from police
The Windsor chief of police Pam Mizuno, along with three police officers talked to first year journalism students at St. Clair College.
On November 13, at 9:30 a.m. Mizuno, Sgt. Steve Betteridge, Cst. Talya Natyshak, and Inspector Dan Potvin gave their time talking about protocol for media personnel, how media students can build trusting relationships with officers, and about their work in general.
The officers expressed the importance of public safety and keeping the public informed at the same time. Sgt. Betteridge stated how he decides whether to release information to the media; he asks himself whether the information is in the public’s interest, or if it just interesting to the public.
The Windsor police have been long supporters of the journalism program at St. Clair College, and Sgt. Betteridge and Cst. Natyshak have continued to help the students get information or quotes for articles on a timely basis.
