Journey Tribute band plays concert to raise funds for Childhood Cancer
Journey Tribute band South Detroit played a concert for Childhood Cancer on Nov. 8
The band, titled South Detroit, after the city in Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin,’ were raising money for ChildCan, a childhood cancer charity.
The entrance fee was $30, with ChildCan receiving a portion of the profits, alongside having a table at the event.
They played at the Serbian Centre on Tecumseh, with the main act beginning at 8pm and lasting until about 11pm.
The opening act for the band was Justin Jewell, a one-man band, who is a member of ChildCan and a cancer survivor himself, having survived Leukaemia.
Karen Damphouse, a Windsorite, was one of many who saw the event.
“I had a great time, and it brought back a lot of memories of my teenage years, with good music and good people,” she said.
Damphouse said it was an epic evening.
“I believe the guys in the band did a great job at bringing it to life, and the lead singers voice was very similar to Steve Perry, the original lead vocalist of Journey,” said Damphouse.
ChildCan is a charity and support group for those suffering with childhood cancer and the families of those children.
“I believe the charity was a good choice for fundraising,” said Damphouse. “Giving money to help children in charity or in any way is always a good thing, it was definitely a good evening”
