Kansas City Chiefs: Comeback champions
The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions for the first time in 50 years.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led his team to a come from behind fourth quarter victory to capture the Vince-Lombardi trophy. The 24-year old MVP scored his first touchdown of the game then fell behind to a strong San Francisco team 20-10 in the third quarter.
With the 62,417 crowd of Kansas City fans wilted, and without much opportunity to do the “tomahawk chop” celebration, the team rallied and Mahomes showed just why he would later be named MVP of the Superbowl.
Mahomes’ effort led to scoring 21 straight points in the final six minutes of the contest to capture the title for the first time in 50 year with a score of 31 to 20.
Players, friends, family, and fans celebrated the victory, some players tweeting their excitement.
“Darwin Thompson the super bowl champ. Now that and my degree is what they can never take. Thank God, Call God, and tell him thank you for me! GODS PLAN,” tweeted Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson.
The triumphant comeback marks history for the Kansas City Chiefs, who struggled in the post-season, proving that comebacks are their specialty.
