Kingsville held Terry Fox Run last weekend
The Kingsville community raised over $20,000 in a Terry Fox Run event last weekend, Sept. 15.
For the past 44 years, Canada has hosted “Terry Fox Run” events nationwide, raising over 60 million dollars from 2019-2023. All these events were to raise money for cancer research.
This is the eighth year that Kingsville has run their own “Terry Fox Run,” raising around $16,000 last year, and over $93,000 throughout all eight years. This year, the people of Kingsville had donations from all over the community, raising over $20,000.
They raised this money through team and individual fundraising, t-shirt sales, and their silent auction.
A lot of people came out to participate in this event, from coordinators to people running registration, but most people were there to do the run.
During the event, all ages were invited to participate. After registration was completed, all participants were told of two routes they could take. They could take the shorter 2km route or the 5km route. Some participants even decided to do a route two times over.
Participants were also welcome to do the routes however they wanted. They were allowed to walk, run, bike, or even rollerblade. However, most runners chose to either walk or run.
Most runners who came to the event were running for someone who has been affected by Cancer in some way. Emma Muldoon, a local runner, said she was running for two people in her life.
“I am running for my friend’s grandpa, and I am running for my late aunt Cathy, who unfortunately died from cancer,” said Muldoon.
