Lancers Continue Drought
By Kyle Rose
The University of Windsor men’s football team continues to struggle after another tough loss. The Lancers lost to the University of Western Ontario Mustangs who are on a four game winning streak. The Mustangs are usually one of the toughest teams in the conference and are currently undefeated in Ontario University Athletics. The Lancers’ most recent loss prior to Sept. 16 came on the road when they fell to the University of Guelph Gryphons. With this loss, it leaves the Lancers winless so far in the OUA.
Adam Levicuiski, has been an avid fan of the Lancer’s football program for more than five years. He said he understands why the program is struggling and says it is just a phase.
“We have a lot of freshmen this year so it’s going to take time to adjust the new players into the system,” said Levicuiski.
Lancers head coach Joe D’Amore recruited more than 15 new players this year to the roster.
With the addition of these rookies to the team, the Lancers have one of the most heavily recruited classes this year in USPORTS, formerly known as Canadian Interuniversity Sports.
Jeremy Rogers, the assistant defensive line coach for the Lancers, has been with the team for three years and came from coaching in Toronto for Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School . He helped recruit four student athletes to the Lancers.
“We have some work to do this season but we understand where we are in the OUA,” said Rogers. “This is a rebuilding phase and we are looking to the future.”
The Lancers continue their season on Sept. 23 in Ottawa against the Gee-Gees.
